Impacto del trasplante de microbiota fecal en enfermedades gastrointestinales

El trasplante de microbiota fecal (TMF) ha emergido como una estrategia terapéutica prometedora en el tratamiento de diversas enfermedades gastrointestinales. Este artículo de revisión narrativa explora el impacto del TMF en condiciones como la infección por Clostridioides difficile, la enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal y el síndrome del intestino irritable. A través de la transferencia de microbiota intestinal de un donante sano a un receptor, el TMF busca restaurar un equilibrio microbiano saludable, lo cual es crucial para el funcionamiento óptimo del sistema digestivo. La evidencia sugiere que el TMF es altamente efectivo en la resolución de infecciones recurrentes por C. difficile, con tasas de éxito que superan el 90%. Además, estudios preliminares indican beneficios potenciales en la reducción de la inflamación y la mejora de los síntomas en pacientes con enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal. Sin embargo, los resultados en el síndrome del intestino irritable son más heterogéneos, lo que destaca la necesidad de investigaciones adicionales para identificar los perfiles de pacientes que más se beneficiarían de esta intervención. A pesar de sus prometedores resultados, el TMF aún enfrenta desafíos regulatorios y éticos que deben ser abordados para su implementación generalizada. Este artículo revisa la literatura actual, discutiendo tanto los avances como las limitaciones del TMF en el ámbito clínico.
