Resumo

Introduction: The consumption of dietary supplements has increased in recent years, especially among bodybuilders. These products are often used to optimize physical performance and improve body aesthetics, but their indiscriminate use can pose health risks. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the consumption of dietary supplements among gym-goers in the city of Rio Pomba - MG. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional quantitative study conducted with 50 adults of both sexes, aged between 18 and 40 years. Participants who had been bodybuilding for at least six months, with a minimum frequency of three times a week, were included. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire containing 13 closed-ended questions and two open-ended questions about the consumption of dietary supplements. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, with presentation in relative frequency, mean and standard deviation. Results: The results indicated that 100% of the participants use dietary supplements, with creatine being the most consumed (88%), followed by whey protein. The main objective of consumption was to gain muscle mass (66%). Most of the practitioners have been attending the gym for over a year and train three to five times a week. Nutritionists were the main people responsible for prescribing the supplements. Conclusion: It was concluded that the consumption of dietary supplements is widespread among the practitioners evaluated, with creatine being the most used. The importance of professional monitoring is highlighted to avoid inadequate consumption and its possible adverse effects.
