Abordaje de las maloclusiones en edades tempranas: tratamientos ortodónticos preventivos

Resumo

Las maloclusiones dentales representan alteraciones en la alineación y relación de los dientes, cuya detección y tratamiento en edades tempranas son esenciales para prevenir complicaciones futuras. Este artículo de revisión narrativa aborda la importancia de los tratamientos ortodónticos preventivos en niños, destacando su papel en el desarrollo adecuado de las estructuras orofaciales y en la mejora de la función masticatoria, la estética y la salud oral en general. Se analizan las principales causas de las maloclusiones, como factores genéticos, hábitos orales nocivos (como la succión digital o el uso prolongado del chupete) y alteraciones en el crecimiento óseo. Asimismo, se describen los diferentes enfoques preventivos, que incluyen la eliminación de hábitos perjudiciales, el uso de aparatos ortodónticos interceptivos y la promoción de una adecuada higiene oral y hábitos alimenticios. El tratamiento temprano no solo facilita la corrección de problemas dentales en desarrollo, sino que también reduce la necesidad de intervenciones más complejas en el futuro. Esta revisión resalta la relevancia de un diagnóstico precoz y un manejo integral por parte del ortodoncista, en colaboración con otros profesionales de la salud, para garantizar resultados óptimos en el desarrollo dental infantil.
