Avances recientes en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de la epilepsia infantil

La epilepsia infantil representa uno de los trastornos neurológicos más prevalentes en la población pediátrica, con implicaciones significativas para el desarrollo cognitivo, emocional y social de los pacientes. En los últimos años, los avances en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de esta condición han permitido una mejor comprensión de sus mecanismos subyacentes y una optimización en el manejo clínico. Las innovaciones en técnicas de neuroimagen, como la resonancia magnética funcional y la tomografía por emisión de positrones, han facilitado la identificación de focos epilépticos y anomalías estructurales. A su vez, los avances en genética han permitido el descubrimiento de mutaciones específicas asociadas con síndromes epilépticos, favoreciendo un enfoque terapéutico más personalizado. En cuanto al tratamiento, el desarrollo de nuevos fármacos antiepilépticos con perfiles de seguridad más favorables y la implementación de terapias no farmacológicas, como la estimulación del nervio vago y las dietas cetogénicas, han ampliado las opciones terapéuticas disponibles. Asimismo, las intervenciones quirúrgicas continúan siendo una alternativa eficaz en casos refractarios. Este artículo revisa los progresos recientes en el campo, destacando la importancia de un abordaje multidisciplinario y personalizado para mejorar los resultados clínicos y la calidad de vida de los pacientes pediátricos con epilepsia.
